Dear All,
Magdalen’s latest exhibition, ‘In His own image’, will be open to everyone on Wednesdays, 2pm till 4:30pm, starting on 7th February and ending on 13th March. It is held in the Old Library at Magdalen College, Oxford.
The exhibition explores the theme of copies, forgeries, and facsimiles. Curated by Dr Alexy Karenowska (Fellow in Physics at Magdalen), it features fakeries of various kinds – book and non-book, upfront and covert -- dating from the 15th century to the 20th. Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll and Copernicus all make appearances, and the centrepiece is a robot-created Pentelic marble replica of the Selene Horse, on loan from the Freud Museum in London. On Thursday 15th February at 5:30pm, the curator will give a talk in Magdalen’s Summer Common Room, accompanied by a special viewing of the exhibition. If you’d like to attend, please register here (https://forms.office.com/e/mcw8sktDAU).
We’re really excited to share this exhibition and talk with you! Please do join us, and please feel free to share the details and attached poster with others who might be interested.
Best wishes,
Lucy
