Hi all,
I have seen a few articles about third spaces recently, and this ties in nicely with the research I am currently undertaking on Ray Oldenburg’s Third Places theory. I am particularly interested in how school library staff feel about the central themes when considering their school library space.
I am hoping to interview 20 school librarians/staff members about this subject, and I am hoping some of you will be interested in taking part.
Please note that your participation will be anonymous.
A few details:
- You need to be working in a school library in England which caters for Secondary school ages (11+)
- You do not need to know anything about ‘Third Places’ in order to be interviewed, as all themes will be covered in the interview
- Questions will be sent in advance for you to look over, though this is for your own convenience and you do not need to have read them beforehand
- A consent form will be sent to you, but you can withdraw from the process at any point
- The interview should take no more than an hour via Teams, and at a time which suits you
- You do not need to have your camera on in order to take part
- The interview will be recorded, so that I can transcribe and analyse the information
- All information will be stored securely and deleted according to GDPR guidance
- Any identifiable information will be fully anonymised. Your name and school will not be referenced, and if you are quoted it will be as ‘participant X’ only
- You can request a copy of the research once it has been completed
This research will form a part of my dissertation for my MSc in Library and Information studies with Robert Gordon University, but it is not linked to any other organisation. My supervisor for the dissertation, Dr Konstantina Martzoukou, will be overseeing my research, but they will only see the transcriptions after they have been anonymised.
If you are interested in knowing more, or would like to take part, please email me at [log in to unmask]
Many thanks - Helen Blackwell (LIS student at RGU)
