Session proposal for the RGS-IBG Conference, London, 27-30 August 2024
Title
Ideas for financial visualisation (FinVis)
Format
Interactive short (5-minute) papers with discussion (100 minutes in total)
Convener
Dariusz Wójcik, National University of Singapore
Finance & Space journal promotes financial cartography and visualization through the FinVis section. The inaugural editorial stressed that the road to improving the financial system leads through FinVis, as financial visualisation helps change the way people see and understand finance. Instead of reinforcing the image of finance as technical, arcane, and best left to finance experts, FinVis grounds finance in specific contexts, uncovering its geographical origins and impacts on society and the environment. The journal defines FinVis broadly, including maps, charts, diagrams, photos, videos, and any other types of visualization. Each visual is accompanied with up to 500 words of text explaining the purpose, methods, and message behind it. For more details see https://www.tandfonline.com/action/authorSubmission?show=instructions&journalCode=rfas20. We invite authors of ideas for financial visualization intended for submission to Finance & Space journal to present their ideas, including draft visuals, at the session. Up to ten ideas will be included, with 5 minutes for the presentation of each, and 5 for feedback from the audience. Journal editors present at the conference will continue conversations with the presenters after the session to offer more feedback.
Interested authors should submit the title, a 150-word abstract, and full contact details to [log in to unmask] by 23 February 2024. The outcomes of the selection process will be communicated by the end of February.
