See end of message below for films being screened (subject to change).

Homo Humour curated by Dr Lee Campbell explores the history of comedy as a queer identity defence, a means of expression and storytelling and the subversive and surprising ways that humour can be used on screen. Homo Humour responds to the growing interest in LGBTQ+ folk using film and moving image to tell their stories by focusing purely on humour. Whilst the concept of humour helping LGBTQ+ people is an interesting (and vital) world to explore, this event seeks to also engage wider groups of artists, academics and students interested in film and/or the study of humour. We also invite health/inclusion/wellbeing practitioners who are interested in how comedic storytelling may encourage people’s understanding of LGBTQ+ communities.Homo Humour was first presented at Edgezones gallery in Miami in January 2020 and then at Sardinia Pride/Queeresima in June 2020. In 2022, the showreel screened at The Bridge House Theatre, London, Metal, Southend-on-Sea and FRISE Kunstlerhaus, Hamburg, Germany, Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool bringing together emerging and established gay male artists/independent filmmakers for the first time from all over the world. In 2023, the showreel screened at a range of venues including London Metropolitan University’s Rainbow Rooms.

FILMS BEING SHOWN AT PUTNEY LIBRARY:

Marcel Barelli
DANS LA NATURE (IN NATURE) (2021) 5 minutes
In nature, a couple is a male and a female. Well, not always! A couple is also a female and a female. Or a male and a male. You may not know it, but homosexuality isn't just a human story.

Jake Shannon
SAMMY THE SALMON (2018) 6 mins 30 secs
An absurdist black comedy about a man who is helped by a talking salmon to come to terms with his sexual identity.

Jordan McKenzie
MONSIEUR POO-POURRI TAKES A TOUR OF HIS ESTATE, Bethnal Green, LONDON (2010) 2 mins. A short film featuring a hobby horse and the artist dressed up as jockey riding the horse through the estate he lives on in London.

Lee Campbell
RUFUS (2022) 4 mins
This film is about me almost sharing my partner Alex with Rufus the dog we often dog-sit whenever Rufus is around with him dominating and me battling Rufus by me becoming him by me dressing up in a dog costume!

Kirk Flash
THIS IS GAY (2023) 14 mins
They’re called “gays”. But who are they, really? You’re about to be taken on a strange adventure. And don’t worry, there’ll be food. Absurdist sketch mockumentary from Kirk Flash.

Paddy Morahan and Gus George
THE PANSY OF PICKADEE (2023) 7 mins 41 seconds
'The Pansy of Pickadee' tells the story of a queer young man and a town on the verge of destruction. When all else fails, the young man uses his special skills to save his friends and family and becomes the hero he was born to be.

Charlie Steers
I’M NOT CHRIS HEMSWORTH (2022) 11 mins
A ridiculous comedy fantasia that parodies the mistaken identity trope with a surprise musical twist.

Lee Campbell
HIMBO JIMBO (2024) 2 mins
Like an old folklore nursery rhyme with a twist, this short catchy poetry film tells the imaginary tale of a gay guy called James AKA ‘Himbo Jimbo’.

Lee Campbell
STD (2024) 1 min 30 seconds
A short rhythmic poetry film about a guy being given a sexually transmitted disease, with quite a twist ending! Think Jilted John at the sex clinic!

Craig Ford
THE GREEN-EYED MONSTER (2022) 9 mins 14 seconds
A rather queer bedtime story ... Clive is not speaking to his husband Roger. But jealousy is the least of their problems. Beware the green eyed monster.
