Queen Margaret University, Division of Psychology, Sociology and Education seeks to add to its dynamic and socially-engaged social science team with the appointment of a 0.5 FTE Lecturer in Sociology with the necessary expertise in current data-informed, socially and theoretically relevant sociology to support our undergraduate provision across the Division. The successful postholder will lead and teach on modules that form part of our highly regarded degrees in Psychology and Sociology, Public Sociology, and Education.

This is an exciting opportunity for career development and progression. The purpose of the role is to provide excellent and innovative teaching both online and on campus; provide academic guidance to students; guide curriculum and programme design and undertake scholarship and/or research in an aspect of sociology. The post offers the opportunity to work with colleagues in the Division of Psychology, Sociology & Education, as well as across the University, and to broaden our collaborative engagement with professionals across the social science, voluntary and/or policy sectors or beyond.

The postholder will have the opportunity to apply their skills, knowledge, and expertise to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, which share the reputable approach taken by the division in being intellectually rigorous and research based, with a focus on wellbeing, social justice and diversity at their core. Our programmes are designed to meet the challenges as well as recognise the rewards of living in the 21st century information age and will prepare students by actively engaging them in contemporary issues in psychology, sociology and education and help them develop a sound knowledge of the range of factors that affect people in our society. It is important that the post-holder share the ethos of the division, school, and university in being concerned with issues of social justice and are passionate about applying this ethos in the delivery of our programmes.

We are seeking motivated individuals with an intrest in sociological theory and research methods and demonstrable experience and scholarship interest in aspects of these subjects. Your expertise will primarily relate to sociology theory and research methods and must include familiarity with quantitative and qualitative approaches to research.

You will ideally have previous experience in delivering University-level provision in a cognate subject however we are also open to applications from those for whom this would be their first academic appointment. Passion and enthusiasm for delivering high-quality, engaging teaching and learning is essential. The role is advertised as either a teaching and scholarship or a teaching and research position and you should indicate in your application which you wish to be considered for. Those seeking appointment on a teaching and research contract should have a track record of research publications commensurate with their career stage..
