Hi Kate
I don't think HES data has enough detail for what you are looking for.
However, there is the NICOR audit reports, latest 2023, which do cover Heart Failure: https://www.nicor.org.uk/heart-failure-heart-failure-audit/
The summary report includes 2.5 Severity of symptoms and signs at admission (by class) and 2.7 is Length of Care, so the 2 together can cobble together a rough answer.
Appendix 3 is submitted and validated HF admissions so that will give more details on the numbers.
Good luck

Subject: NHS Digital Data - help needed

Dear All
I feel a dope for asking but I find the NHS Digital data totally incomprehensible. Is there any training available on interpreting or even viewing this quagmire?
Anyway, I am trying to pick out the stats that tell me the length of hospital stay for in-patients with heart failure - ideally broken down by class ie class 1/2/3/4.
I feel that this is a search query for this there is an actual answer but the spreadsheets confuse me.
Many thanks for your time
Kate
