The appointment is due to commence from January 2024. Modules aim to run 1 to 8 times a year, with 6 - 7 exam boards per year. Exam boards will be held online using Microsoft Teams.
General Information
The initial appointment duration is for one year, with an option to potentially extend (please note, some modules are on teach out so will not run for the full period).
An external examiner must have appropriate standing, relevant expertise within higher education or any relevant professional body, and credibility to review and report on academic standards and the fairness of operational procedures.
Duties include:
• approving summative assessment instrument(s) (1-6 number of assessments for each module depending on the assessment type);
• moderation of scripts (approximately 10% of total submissions amount);
• attendance at examination boards;
• submission of an Annual External Examiner Report.
External examiners are responsible for programmes but are assigned specific responsibility for modules which informs payments.
You will be paid a fee for each module to which you are assigned. Fees are payable on submission of an Annual External Examiner Report. A full estimate of payments will be calculated upon appointment.
Reasonable expense claims will be reimbursed.
Previous experience as an external examiner is preferred but not essential. An induction session and further training will be provided.
