School of Modern Languages, Newcastle University
Full time, fixed-term (October 2024-June 2025). Deadline to apply: 24 March 2024.
We welcome applications for the post of Research Assistant/ Associate in Hispanic/ Film Studies, to work on the AHRC-funded research project: (De)colonial Ecologies in 21st-century insular Hispanic Caribbean film<https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=AH%2FX010597%2F1>.
The project investigates 21st-century Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican film in order to better understand the relationship between coloniality and ecology, asking to what extent, and in what ways, film can build decolonial ecologies. Using close film analysis, qualitative interviews, participant observation, and participatory action research, the project will illuminate how film - including production and exhibition practices - is and can be used to respond to ecological challenges in a way that also addresses (post)colonial inequalities and injustices in the insular Hispanic Caribbean.
