The Department of Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham is seeking expressions of interest in the following teaching opportunities this semester to cover for a recent successful research award buy-out:
An MA module titled Praxis: Practical and Embodied Research Methods, which will run on Thursday mornings from 10am-1pm, starting on Thursday 18 January (or as soon as possible), with classes also on: Thursday 25 January, 15 February, 7 14, 21 March and 25 April. The module introduces students to practice research in performance methodologies. They work in a laboratory style environment to engage with and apply modes of praxis. It offers them opportunities to develop a praxical understanding of the ways in which performance can be employed as a research strategy, documented, and disseminated as a robust approach to knowledge acquisition. Students explore different approaches to designing practice-based research projects utilising the most current scholarship in the field of performance as research. Assessment is comprised of laboratory process documentation and methodological rationale.
Applicants must have previous experience of teaching and assessment at HE level. We particularly welcome expressions of interest from those who are under-represented in the sector. We are unable to cover travel or accommodation costs, so living near to Birmingham would be an advantage.
The hourly rate for teaching is £56.75 per hour, which includes preparatory and follow-up work.
Please send a one-page expression of interest and your CV to Dr Joanna Bucknall ([log in to unmask]) by Tuesday 16th January 2024 at 5pm.
