Dear colleagues,
it is with great sadness that I am passing on the information about the
death of my colleague, Professor Miroslav Stemprok last week.
Miroslav (Mirek) Stemprok spent most of his scientific career in the
Czech Geological Survey before moving to Charles University in Prague in
1993 where he retired as emeritus professor in 2011 and continued to
take part in the university administration and scientific endeavours
until the corona pandemics.
He is best known for his studies on fluorine-rich granitic systems and
related Sn-W greisen deposits in the Erzgebirge Mts. but travelled
widely and wrote many reviews on occurrences and processes worldwide.
He has been active in diverse international committees such as IAGOD,
editorial boards and as frequent reviewer for international journals.
When we overlapped in Prague, both when I was a student and later as his
colleague, I was frequently seeking and admiring his broad perspective
and rational advice, be it on things geological or administrative. We
have lost a good colleague and friend, and he will be missed by many of
us.
