Dear all,

Are you patient, calm, adore paper work and have a level of humour to work with an excitable interdisciplinary creative researcher (me)?

Applications are invited for a proactive Arts & Cultural Leadership Coordinator (0.6 FTE) at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. You will provide essential, one-to-one Management, Specialist and Administrative support for an Associate Professor in Arts and Cultural Leadership (myself; hereafter ‘APACL’) in my Education, Research, and Enterprise activities. Being neurodivergent (dyslexia, autism, ADHD and dyspraxia), normative approaches to reading, writing, communication, the processing of information and organising present barriers. We will work on ambitious research grant proposals, as well as my module leadership of the new Arts & Cultural Leadership MA in the Department of Art & Media Technology at the Winchester School of Art. See more details below. If you have questions please email brief questions (bullet points) at k [dot] s [dot] tan [at] soton [dot] ac [dot] uk.

- Role: Arts and Cultural Leadership Coordinator
- Location: Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, UK (on site; some level of hybrid work possible)
- Salary: £34,980 to £42,978 Pro rata per annum
- Part Time Fixed Term (0.6FTE, until 07/12/2025)
- Closing Date: Tuesday 24 October 2023
- Application: https://jobs.soton.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=2471423FH (applications via third party sites like LinkedIn will not be valid)

*Please note: This is a coordinator role. While there may be opportunities to support your own research and teaching (especially if related to interdisciplinary, decolonial, EDI-led creative research), career progress will be in terms of the Management, Specialist and Administrative pathway, but not directly in terms of research and/or teaching. The role is partially funded by UK’s Department of Work and Pensions (Access to Work).

* About the role
Candidates need not have qualifications or experience related to neurodiversity or creative research, or to have come from the arts and humanities. However, you should:

- Have proven experience in research support and (successful) research grant writing.
- Be proactive, meticulous, highly-driven, self-directed and resourceful, and excel in strategising effective solutions to navigate complex, challenging situations, working without complete information.
- Be highly-responsive and agile, completing multiple, competing deadlines, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Have experience in processing, evaluating, summarising and synthesising data that appears diverse/divergent, inconsistent or conflicting.

*What we can offer you: Through the role you will:

- Advance your knowledge, skills and experience on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, particularly in the areas of neurodiversity and disability, decolonisation and anti-racism.
- Have first-hand access to mentoring by the APACL, to advance areas in your personal and professional development.
-Have unique access to work with and learn from innovative researchers and professionals in and beyond the creative and arts and cultural industries, which will allow you to advance your knowledge and skills in transdisciplinary creative research and collaboration, as well as industry and public engagement.
-Work within a collegial work environment and vibrant research community with superlative School and University resources.
Have opportunities to provide teaching and mentoring support to students, and/or to undertake and develop your own research. With access to world-class facilities including the Winchester Gallery and the John Hansard Gallery and complementary academic programmes including Fine Art, Contemporary Curating, and Global Media, you will be a member of our diverse and innovative academic community. Ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide and recognised with Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charter awards, the University of Southampton achieves excellence by promoting an appropriate work/life balance.

best wishes
Kai
