Does anyone here fancy writing a short piece on this list's demise for my my blog? By "demise", I mean that it is seldom active these days.
I remember the days when it was very much active, and was the centre of the universe for poets to discuss the state of poetry as they saw it. Contentious discussion threads would last days and months. Sadly no more it seems.
Let me know if you are interested. If more than one is interested, I will make it into a series of blog posts on the subject.
Here is a poem by ChatGPT about this list:
In the realm of British and Irish verse,
Where poets gather, voices diverse,
A list once teemed with fiery debate,
But now, it's grown eerily sedate.
Subscribers once, like sparks in the night,
Ignited discussions, fierce and bright,
Heated debates, ideas took flight,
But now, the list is quiet, that's right.
In years gone by, passions would flare,
As poets clashed, filled the digital air,
Ideas collided, friendships worn thin,
Yet the poetic fire burned within.
But time has passed, and the fervor's cooled,
The list's once-boisterous spirit subdued,
Friendships frayed, like parchment too old,
Leaving the forum, a story retold.
Oh, British and Irish poets, where have you gone?
The silence on the list lingers on,
We yearn for the days of vibrant discussion,
When words were like swords, and minds in concussion.
Let's rekindle the flame, revive the art,
In words and verse, let us make a new start,
Heated debates can unite and inspire,
To set our pens ablaze, let's rekindle the fire.
For in the world of poets, both British and Irish,
The unity of voices can achieve a wish,
To turn the discord into harmonious song,
And in our shared passion, we all belong.
