The Met Office is recruiting for an applied statistician (Applied Statistical Scientist or Senior Applied Statistical Scientist) to the Industry Science and Consultancy area. We are a multi-disciplinary team including statisticians, looking at the impacts of weather and climate on industry (focused on energy, water and infrastructure mainly). We have a really exciting opportunity, for a statistician to join our team to help industry (focused mostly on energy, water and infrastructure) understand the impacts of weather and climate. This is growing our specialist statisticians in the area as we are seeing increased interest in this topic from our customers, particularly around the quantifying and modelling of extremes.
This role involves working with weather and climate scientists and consultants, and industry and academic partners on the delivery of weather and climate consultancy projects; exploiting the Met Office's scientific and technical capability to answer the questions relevant to the safe, successful and efficient operation of businesses. The successful applicant will focus on the development and application of cutting-edge statistical and data science techniques to both deliver, and support others to deliver, high-quality projects to customers, gaining industry insight and contributing to the wider socio-economic benefit provided by the Met Office.
