Hi everyone
I hope you don't mind me posting something on here that's not related to my work at Wellcome Collection!
On Tuesday 7 November, Prof. Paul Gilroy will be giving The Folklore Society's 2023 Katherine Briggs Lecture, 'Folk Tradition and the Choosing of Ancestors'.
This lecture will consider the race politics of studying folklore before using a warrant drawn from the work of Raymond Williams to consider how the history of twentieth-century English folk music might profitably be reconceptualised.
Paul Gilroy is Professor of The Humanities at University College London where he is the co-director of the Sarah Parker Remond Centre for the study of racism and racialisation.
After the lecture, the Folklore Society will announce the winner of The Katharine Briggs Award 2023, and all the books entered for this year's award will be on display.
Tickets are free, but you're encouraged to select 'Free admission and voluntary donation' when booking your ticket, as each donation helps to support the work of The Folklore Society: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/folk-tradition-and-the-choosing-of-ancestors-by-paul-gilroy-tickets-729740733177
