Subject: Ghazal 37 (from a collection of new ghazals)
*Quick note on the form as I use it: Each couplet is independent of the
others. I intend a connection among the couplets, an emergent one rather
than a forced one. I do not use the traditional rhyme scheme one finds
in
the original Arabic verse form. However, I do maintain a strict syllabic
count. *
*Ghazal 37 *
Storm leaves lightless the incessant driving
pulse to match unhatched powder fur of ducks.
If I dream inside the mind of a child
I can learn the orphan fear and taste it.
Bereavement lasts beyond all the clock face.
I still hear your voice overwhelming me.
Cannot unfight the clash between us now.
The heavens spill unwanted needed rain.
With big boots, skinny dipping in the rain.
Lightning punctuates confessional breath.
