Hi both,
Our visitor numbers compared to pre-pandemic (we use 2019 as a comparison) are down 6% although saying that our figures for July itself were actually up by 6%. With regards to entrance fees we have kept these at the same level so comparing visitor numbers like for like is possible as there has been no increase in entrance fees since our last rise in 2019.
Turning to income, we are down 8% YTD on 2019 although July, with increased visitor numbers meant our income was greater than that in 2019 by 4%. This has to be taken in context as from 1st April we increased the prices of most of our shop bought goods and souvenirs as our own supply costs increased.
Dartmoor Prison Museum is very much a wet weather destination as in good weather, visitors to this area either go walking on the Moor or to the beach. The very wet July we had may account for increased figures this year whilst the warm spell we had earlier in the year may account for the drop in numbers previously.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Paul

Subject: SW rep meeting this afternoon - any up to date info to share with us appreciated
Hello again,
Myself and Stef will be attending an online meeting with the MA this afternoon. These meetings allow time for regional updates and other business.
As you are aware from previous rep emails one of the agenda items is: updates with focus on post-Covid recovery including visitor numbers, and cost of living impact.
We are aware that there is a mixed picture across the region and nationally and this can be impacted by being a museum with charged entry, seasonal differences, size of museum, location etc..
The main data that we have currently is from the SWMD annual museum survey which closed September 2022. (Looking forward to viewing the 2023 AMS in the Autumn) or from members sharing information.
If you have up to date knowledge that you would be happy to share with us we would appreciate your insight. If possible, could you also include a quick note as to size of museum and other relevant info such as free entry.
Thank you.
Julie and Stef
