The Centre for Open Learning, University of Edinburgh is seeking expressions of interest for an external examiner for their credit-bearing provision in the social sciences starting in October 2023 with a possible tenure of up to 5 years.
The duties include the oversight of Short Courses (currently 3 courses), International Foundation Programme (7 courses), Access Programme (2 courses), and Edinburgh Summer School (4 courses). These courses cover a range of disciplines from Psychology to Law, Politics and Sociology, as well as interdisciplinary content, delivered at SCQF level 7 (https://www.ed.ac.uk/lifelong-learning).
An academic background in one or more of these subject areas, and ideally an interdisciplinary focus, would be required. Recent experience of learning and teaching at university-foundation or first-year undergraduate level would be preferred. As per the University of Edinburgh’s External Examiner’s for Taught Programmes Policy, candidates should normally be resident in the UK and able to attend a minimum of one Board per year in-person. Board of Examiners for specific programmes currently take place in December, January, February, May, June, July, and September.
