The European Southern Observatory’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) will be the largest ground-based facility working from the visible to the mid-infrared. Construction on this exciting facility is well underway (https://elt.eso.org/public/news/eso2310/) with first light expected before the end of the decade.
The UK is playing a leading role in the ELT instrumentation suite including leading the first-light integral-field spectrograph HARMONI and has well-defined roles in the mid-infrared imager and spectrograph METIS (both entering their build phases), the high-resolution spectrograph ANDES (formerly HIRES) and multi-object spectrograph MOSAIC (about to begin their design studies). We are also involved in R&D for the ELT’s Planetary Camera and Spectrograph (PCS, formerly EPICS).
We would like to invite you to attend the UK ELT Community Day on 4th October 2023 that will be held in central London and will feature
- updates from the ESO ELT Project Scientist, members of the UK ELT instrument teams and MICADO - the ELT’s first-light imager
- short highlight talks on ELT science cases from the community.
Registration (and abstract submission) is now open at https://forms.gle/kUzRAWRiAwUHkdURA
Grants to help with travel costs for students and post-docs can be applied for through the registration form.
Abstract submission and requests for travel support must be received by 1st September 2023.
We also plan to hold a hands-on workshop for the MICADO and METIS simulators on 5th October 2023. Please indicate in your registration form if you would be interested in attending.
