Hello all,
We are seeking submissions for a Special Issue of Critical and Radical Social Work: Social Work and Social Control https://bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/view/journals/crsw/crsw-overview.xml?tab_body=call-for-papers
Abstract submission deadline 1 October 2023
Guest editors:
Malcolm Carey, Department of Social Work, Liverpool Hope University, UK
Gurnam Singh, Department of Sociology, University of Warwick, UK
Scholars from around the world are invited to prepare papers based on original research, scholarship, reflections on current research and practical experiences of the intersections between power, control, governance, resistance, and the role of social work. Much of the established literature on social work and social control has tended to be framed around social workers as state actors. However, many years of neoliberal reforms have resulted in a significant reshaping of the state. Hence, with the ideological influence of global business and financial discourses within social work sectors, including those in education - and the consequential rapid expansion of private sector provisions, evidence-based practice and vocational training - social work praxis, learning, roles and identities continue to be reconfigured or displaced.
Authors can address topics related to international or national government and public policies, advances in critical theory or the effects and responses to social and welfare policies by 'vulnerable' families, marginalized and excluded social groups. To ensure a good balance, we will be looking for a range of submissions broadly related to the following five themes:
• Child protection/safeguarding
• Ageing and later life
• Asylum/refugees
• Disability and/or mental health
• Sexuality and/or gender identity
Extended abstracts (500 words) or draft articles (maximum 8,000 words) should be sent to [log in to unmask] by 1 October 2023.
Read the call for papers for more information and key dates and deadlines https://bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/view/journals/crsw/crsw-overview.xml?tab_body=call-for-papers
I look forward to seeing your submissions.
Thanks and best wishes,
