Archivist/Researcher Advert
Temporary post – 3-6 months (salary TBC)
Location – Hybrid. The post will require visits to various sites and Scottish Government buildings as required.
The Scottish Government are undertaking enquiries in respect of a care setting which operated between the 1960’s and 1990’s and where children were abused. Limited records have been recovered in respect of this setting and we are looking for someone to join the Scottish Government on secondment or as a temporary post to assist with these further enquiries. This is an area of work of interest to Scottish Ministers and the Scottish Parliament. You will work closely with officials from the Scottish Government Redress, Relations and Response Division.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Searching a range of archived records held by public bodies including, but not limited to:
o Social work records
o Education records
o Property records
o Police and court records
o Post Office records
o Council records
• Analysing the information contained within any records recovered, summarising the information and identifying gaps in records.
• Preparing a report for Scottish Ministers outlining the various work undertaken to search for records relating to this care setting and summarising the information recovered and contained within records.
• Engaging with survivors of historical childhood abuse.
We are looking for someone who has the following key skills:
• The ability to work autonomously and also as part of a team.
• An ability to communicate with survivors in a sensitive and compassionate manner.
• Experience of collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify historical records and evidence efforts made to recover records.
• Strong planning and organisational skills with an enthusiasm and commitment to drive this work forward within a challenging timeline.
• Analytical or research skills and experience who can interpret complex and detailed information and data from a variety of sources.
• Excellent written skills and the ability to produce a high quality report, drawing out the key findings, which will be shared with Scottish Ministers.
