Driven by connected low-cost sensing and actuation and the range of scientifically and economically relevant applications these capabilities enable, the Internet of Things has become a central research area with reach across fields within and peripheral to information technology. Particular challenges include understanding IoT application/user demands, heterogeneous architectures and interoperability, emerging IoT communication technologies and their coexistence, cross-layer hard and soft quality of service guarantees, and integrating and mediating Things within intelligent systems. The International Conference on the Internet of Things is the premier gathering for visionary and groundbreaking research in IoT and closely-related fields. It connects world-class researchers with leading industry experts to steer innovation in multiple IoT verticals (e.g., smart industry, smart city/urban, smart health, smart environment). Since its start in 2008, the conference has been backed by strong support from leading academic institutions as well as industry. We are pleased to announce its 13th edition and associated workshops, which will take place physically from November 7–10 at the Noyori Conference Hall at Nagoya University, Japan.

The objective of the IoT 2023 workshop program is to provide additional forums for discussing novel ideas related to IoT subareas and to stimulate and facilitate active exchange, interaction, and comparison of approaches, methods, and ideas related to IoT. The goal is to have a balanced workshop program comprising workshops of different types and formats combining emerging and established topics. Workshops should provide an informal and vibrant forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their research results and practical experiences. This year, we encourage submissions related, but not limited to, IoT-enabled alternate realities as well as assured autonomy and resilient IoT.

[Workshop Proposals and Information]
IoT 2023 invites full-day and half-day workshop proposals with a clearly defined scope that falls in the general topics of the conference. We also encourage submission of workshop proposals that follow alternative formats such as hackathons, plugfests, demo jams, and breakout sessions as long as they can be conducted in hybrid settings.

We encourage workshop organizers to consider holding workshops physically at Noyori Conference Hall at Nagoya University.

The organizers of accepted workshops will be responsible for workshops’ reviewing processes and publicity with support from IoT 2023 general chairs, which will announce all accepted workshops as collocated events on the conference website and via its publicity channels. IoT 2023 will publish accepted workshop papers in companion proceedings to the conference’s main proceedings.

Workshop participants will be required to register for the full conference. At the discretion of the chairs, workshops may be canceled if organizers have not registered in a timely manner or if a workshop has received too few submissions. In the latter case we encourage the organizers to consider merging their workshop with another fitting workshop under a broader theme. Workshop organizers will receive one complimentary full conference registration.

[Topics of Interest]
IoT 2023 solicits workshop proposals on all topics related to the development and adoption of the Internet of Things—topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Scalable IoT Architectures including Semantic Interoperability and the Web of Things
Edge AI and edge computing applications and technologies
Novel IoT Communication Technologies and Protocols
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in IoT including battery-less and biodegradable computing
Small and Large-scale pilots of IoT Sensing, Signal Processing, Actuation and Analytics
Safety, Security and Privacy Risks and Guarantees in IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems
Database and Distributed Ledger Technologies for IoT
Human Interaction with IoT IoT-enhanced AR/VR/MR, Metaverse, and Games
Cyber-Physical Systems, Digital Twins and Inter-Realities
Large-Scale IoT Analytics and Internet of Behaviors
Transient Large-Scale Networks including V2V or V2X
Real-world IoT Deployments, Testbeds and Datasets
Novel IoT Applications in Industry (e.g., manufacturing, agriculture, business processes, robotics, etc. ) including networked intelligent production systems
Novel IoT Applications for Environmental Sensing and Disaster Response
Societal Impacts and Ethical Implications of IoT

[Submission]
Workshop proposals should be submitted no later than May 25, 2023 to [log in to unmask], and will be subject to a rolling acceptance process. Organizers should submit a 200 words abstract, along with a single PDF file of 4 pages maximum in the ACM SIGCHI Extended Abstracts Format in Word or Latex including references, containing the following sections:

* Title, acronym, potentially logo
* Topics of interest covered by the workshop
* Motivation: Why is the topic of particular interest to a reasonable fraction of the IoT community and, if applicable, relevant to the * suggested topic areas (i.e., IoT-enabled alternate realities as well as assured autonomy and resilient IoT)?
* Organization and Format: Description of the intended organization, the selection process for the contributors, and schedule of the event
* If applicable, a brief discussion of the workshop’s history (experiences, number of submissions and attendees, etc.)
* If applicable, evidence that there is an existing community of researchers and practitioners that are susceptible to contribute to this event, including references to work relating to the core topic of the workshop that are not co-authored by the organizers
* Alternatively, arguments for the formation of a new community of research. The proposal should then include a discussion of the importance of such a new formation and outreach to relevant areas of research within the scope of IoT 2023.
* Chairs: Name, affiliation, email address, homepage and a short biography of each chair, explaining the chair’s expertise and experience relevant for the workshop
* Program Committee: Names and affiliations of potential PC members
* Papers for accepted workshops will be published in conference companion proceedings.


[Acceptance Criteria of Workshop Proposals]
A limited number of workshop proposals will be accepted to IoT 2023. Each proposal will be evaluated based on the quality of the proposal and its appeal to the IoT community. Proposals should demonstrate the following:

The workshops topics fall in the general scope of IoT 2023, with preference given to the identified areas of IoT-enabled alternate realities and assured autonomy and resilient IoT
There is a clear identity and a focus on a specific problem, application area, or technology
There are sufficient researchers and practitioners that are willing and able to contribute to and participate in the event
The organization and format are appealing for potential contributors and participants
In case overlapping workshops are proposed, the Workshop Chairs may contact the organizers to discuss the possibility of merging workshops.
