Dear colleagues,

We are happy to announce 3 upcoming Transmitting Science courses
related. The three of them will be held live online:

SPECIES OCCURRENCE DATA DOWNLOAD AND CLEANING WITH R - July 3rd-4th,
2023 (course webpage:
https://www.transmittingscience.com/courses/ecology/species-occurrence-data-download-and-cleaning-with-r/)
In this short course, we will use a range of tools to: 1) Import species
occurrence data from various sources into R (e.g. GBIF, iNaturalist,
VertNet, EcoEngine, national / regional / continental atlases); 2) Join
and arrange these data into a homogeneous dataset for analysis; 3) Map
and visually inspect the data for taxonomic and spatial errors and bias;
4) Clean the data from detectable errors, using both non-automatic and
automatic tools (e.g. ‘scrubr’, ‘CoordinateCleaner’); 5) Correct or
minimize spatial biases with different tools (e.g. ‘spThin’,
‘humboldt.occ.rarefy’, ‘gridRecords’).

EVALUATING AND VALIDATING SPECIES DISTRIBUTION MODELS WITH R - July
18th-19th, 2023 (course webpage:
https://www.transmittingscience.com/courses/ecology/evaluating-and-validating-species-distribution-models-with-r/).
Model quality should be assessed with a comprehensive set of evaluation
measures, appropriate for species with different ecological and
biogeographical traits. In this short course, we will use R to compute a
wide range of model evaluation metrics, encompassing discrimination,
classification, explanatory power and calibration. We will also see
different ways to validate models outside their training area, including
spatial block cross-validation.

INTRODUCCIÓN A LOS MODELOS DE NICHOS ECOLÓGICOS - 6-14 de julio, 2023
(EN CASTELLANO) (course webpage:
https://www.transmittingscience.com/courses/ecology/introduccion-al-modelado-de-nichos/).

This course focuses on the basic theory of species ecological niche
modeling and its main methodologies. By the end of this 5-day hands-on
course, you will have the ability to perform ecological niche modeling
and understand its results. You will be able to choose and apply the
appropriate methodology depending on the objective of your study and the
type of data.

Best Regards
Juanvi
