Hi Juliet,
I've been trying to work out the best way to do this for a while. I was previously giving total student numbers on all modules, but often finding these modules to be on the same programme, meaning I was potentially including the same students twice.
Our planning department creates a weekly module enrolments spreadsheet with a pivot table for all modules and student numbers. I've discovered there is a 'Student name' field, so I've started adding this into the pivot table, copying across all student names from all modules the title appears on into a new Excel sheet. Then I remove duplicates on name and take the remaining number of names as the final sum. This has still been leading to very high quotes in many cases, which is a little frustrating as we know not all students included in the total numbers will actually access the book, but at least we know we're not counting the same student more than once.
It's not always clear from the publisher what the criteria is for student numbers, and whether all modules that list the title must be included, particularly if the title is not listed as essential reading. I don't know if anyone has managed to negotiate a reasonable way to estimate realistic usage when acquiring new POAs?
Kind regards,
Laura

Hi all
We are testing the Browns Price On Application option and requesting pricing for some unlimited user titles where the cost is based on the number of students likely to access the book.
We were using total number of students on all modules which included the book on the reading list as our figure, but it is so high, and so many of the prices are correspondingly high. We know that the same students might be counted on multiple modules so we will be inflating this figure.
Would anyone else be willing to share on or off list how they calculate this number? we thought we could use
Highest single number of students on a module Average - total number of students divided by number of modules.
Of course after the first year we will know how many students have accessed a text and can base our renewal or cancellation on that figure, but as we are just starting out all of our numbers are estimates.
Many thanks all,
Juliet
