Reference: Call for Expressions of Interest to Host the Symposium "Teaching about sustainable development in professional
education programmes"

The pursuit of sustainability is quite high in the international agenda. It is important that professionals in all fields 
understand the importance of sustainable practices. But in order to achieve this goal, professional education should incorporate sustainable teaching into the curriculum and study programmes, so that future professionals can have a broad, holistic understanding of sustainability as it 
applies to their area of expertise. 

Apart from raising their awareness, teaching  students attending professionals courses about sustainability will 
help them to make informed decisions and develop strategies that have a positive impact on the environment and on society. 
Graduates of professionals courses who understand sustainability, can develop better long-term solutions, advise 
clients and stakeholders on sustainable practices, and contribute to the betterment of society. 
In addition, teaching professionals about sustainability will help them better understand the impacts of their own field of expertise and line of work on the environment, and encourage them to address these impacts.

Bearing in mind the perceived need to incorporate sustainability components in professional education,
the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme, 
http://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-nk/programmes/iusdrp, the European School of Sustainability Science and Research
https://esssr.eu and the  UK Consortium on Sustainability Research
https://www.mmu.ac.uk/research/research-centres/ecology-environment/groups/zero-carbon-sustainable-futures/UK-CSR
are organising the Symposium "Teaching about sustainable development in professional
education programmes". The event will be of special interest to staff working at professional
schools, and involved in the training of  students pursuing a given profession
(including apprenticeships) who will have a unique opportunity to discuss approaches, methods and tools
which can ensure that sustainability is placed more prominently in the study and training programmes
offered by professional schools.

ESSSR, IUSDRP and UK-CSR are now seeking expressions of interest from members, who may be interested to
host this event, to be held in June 2024. The exact dates and other details may be discussed and agreed upon with the potential hosts.
