Hello Everyone,
I think most of you are aware that Turnitin will be decommissioning the Turnitin Building Block this coming August. I also know that most of us have switched over to Turnitin LTI 1.3. We currently use Blackboard Learn Ultra (SaaS) and Turnitin LTI 1.3.
If we need to access Turnitin assignments that were created using the Turnitin Building Block prior to August 2022, we now have to use the native Turnitin interface to access them. All of our academics, course administrators, and students would have access Turnitin through Blackboard (our VLE), not the native Turnitin interface.
However, to be able to access the Turnitin assignment (i.e., the class) that were created prior to August 2022, and some go as far back as 2015 via the native interface, a user would have needed to access the Turnitin assignment through the VLE in the first instance for Turnitin to associate the Turnitin Class ID with them. This is problematic where there is a high turnover of staff meaning that some newer staff will simply not be able to access older Turnitin assignments via the native interface.
It is also frustrating that our system administrators who look after Turnitin do not have the means to search and access ALL Turnitin classes – in other words, if they need to access a Turnitin assignment that they previously looked at via Blackboard using the Turnitin Building Block, they will be able to see it and access it via the native interface. If the need to access a Turnitin assignment that they have not looked at before switching off the Turnitin Building Block, they will not be able to access to the class at all.
My questions to colleagues within this mailing list is:
1. How is your university handling or planning to handle staff access to the native Turnitin interface to access older Turnitin Assignments?
2. Is your university planning to make the native access limited to course administrators, or will it opened to academic colleagues?
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.
Best wishes,
Wayne
