Dear Colleagues,
Final Call: World Symposium of Climate Change and Sustainable Development
Centres - Thu, 29 Jun 2023 - Fri, 30 Jun 2023, Hamburg, Germany
Over the past 20 years, efforts to handle climate change and implement
sustainable development across a wide range of subjects and disciplines,
and by means of research projects, events and practical initiatives, have
been driven by centres devoted to this topic. Regardless of their formal
title, many climate change and sustainable development centres have been
playing a key role in fostering the case of climate change and sustainable
development. But despite the importance of their work, climate change and
sustainable development centres often operate in an isolated manner, with
few opportunities being provided to them to meet, discuss common interests
and seek synergies. Yet, much could be gained if centres working on matters
related to climate change and sustainable development in both
industrialised and developing nations, could come together.
Against this background, the International Climate Change Information and
Research Programme (ICCIRP)
<https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-nk/programmes/iccirp/>, the European
School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) <https://esssr.eu/>,
the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme
<https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-nk/programmes/iusdrp/> and the UK
Consortium for Sustainability Research (UK-CSR)
<https://www.mmu.ac.uk/research/research-centres/ecology-environment/groups/zero-carbon-sustainable-futures/UK-CSR>
are organising the World Symposium of Climate Change and Sustainable
Development Centres: the role of climate change and sustainability centres
in fostering a more sustainable world.
The event will provide an opportunity for climate change and sustainable
development centres from across the world to present their work, studies
they are understanding, as well as research and practical projects which
may contribute to the implementation of climate change actions and
sustainable development as a whole, and the UN SDGs in particular,
to identify, document and disseminate ideas, experiences and visions
from science managers and educators, on how to foster the cause of climate
change action and sustainable development in a more systematic way.
As an output of the event, the book "Fostering Sustainable Development in Practice" will be produced with all accepted papers. This will be published by Springer, as part of the world´s leading, peer-reviewed book series on sustainable development: https://www.springer.com/series/13384
The series is indexed in Scopus and because it is peer-reviewed, the accepted papers usually count for promotion and tenure purposes.
This unique event is a very nice opportunity to bring managers and staff
from climate change and sustainability centres together, discuss how
research-intensive and how practice-oriented their operations are, and to
The event will be of special interest to those colleagues who act as
directors of climate change and sustainability centres, those who have
management responsibilities, as well as senior staff at these centres, who
are responsible for their operations.
This is the last call of papers to contribute to the event,
whose details can be seen at:
https://www.haw-hamburg.de/detail/news/news/show/world-symposium-of-sustainable-development-centres/
Abstracts may be submitted to 30th April 2023. Full details will shared with the authors who have submitted an abstract.
Rgds,
The Organising Team
