Peterborough Limited are recruiting a permanent, Archives Manager to work full time (37 hours per week), based at Central Library in Peterborough.
We are looking for a new Archives Manager to be responsible for the development, preservation, access and promotion of the Archives. The role includes staff management responsibilities and we will expect a strong commitment to customer care.
Based in Peterborough, this is a full time, permanent role with a salary range between £32,000 to £42,000 per annum dependant on experience. What does the role involve?
· To take a lead role in the delivery, management and development of local history and archive services including strategic and business planning for the service.
· To be responsible for ensuring proper storage, conservation, management and development of collections and their accessibility in reference to the necessary legal frameworks.
· To lead the development and implementation of service strategies and delivery plans to meet organisational targets and objectives
· To ensure that strategies, structures and systems are fit for purpose, meet customer need and are in line with organisational culture and values
· To plan, develop and implement a digital preservation strategy to enable the Archive service to preserve our digital collections
· To set targets and carry out performance management processes for the team
· To provide an accessible and secure archive search service to visitors, telephone callers and via email and by referral to agreed standards.
· To ensure that access to collections complies with current legislation connected to archives including the Public Records Act, Freedom of Information, Data Protection as well as Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights Laws etc.
· To ensure the archives service participates and meets the necessary assessments and standards as directed by The National Archives to maintain its Place of Deposit status, including maintaining Accredited status.
· To be an advocate for the Library and Archive service, representing the service with external bodies, businesses and organisations, developing links and partnerships to ensure maximum service and public benefit.
· To develop the archive management database to make it an effective tool for accessioning, cataloguing, locations, customer ordering and loans and contribute to the maintenance and development of the website.
What are we looking for?
· A minimum of two years’ experience in the field of Archives, library, or similar public frontline services, including management and operation of projects, funding bids and partnership working.
· A minimum of two years’ experience of employee management and maintenance of a high performing workforce
· Significant experience of customer engagement and managing concerns/expectations
· Professional Archives management or equivalent qualification
· Collation and use of data to develop programmes and inform appropriate change.
· Experience of service development
· Experience of budget management
· Experience of research level enquiry work
· Experience of dealing with the legal frameworks connected to archives
