Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some guidance/advice about how I could safely get archives out of the building and into the wild (schools), and safely back again. I have been discussing with our Museums Learning team about getting some kind of - well we're not really sure - small portable display case? Or some kind of secure metal suitcase (would we handcuff ourselves to it? would we look like spies?) to house what would be a, changing/changeable, archives handling collection, but not too much actual handling please.
Does anyone have any experience of attempting this sort of thing? We'd like to take documents out into a school, show the children etc. We're not really geared up for school groups coming to the archives here for various logistical reasons. I've done some adult learner workshops at our museums, taking archive documents and volumes with me, but that was a bit more of a secure environment.
Please tell me your thoughts or experiences on this! I will of course send a precis of the results should anyone else be interested in trying something similar.
Cheers
Anne
