Kalamata Drama International Summer School 2023 (KaDISS 2023)

For the past four years the annual Kalamata Drama International Summer
School has provided a three-week integrated programme of intensive
training led by a team of eminent tutors-practitioners.

This summer, responding to the demand for intensive specialised training
in advanced practice, KaDISS 2023 will take a two-week format providing
a dual-themed engagement to stabilise the foundation of the
performer’s skills and enhance their development. The workshops are
aimed at the professional actor, live art performer, singer, or advanced
student of Drama School or Conservatory.

KaDISS 2023 will take the form of two separate intensive one-week
workshops with leading exponents in their specialist fields. The
workshops can be applied for and attended independently by selecting one
only, or consecutively, by selecting both. Each week provides skills for
advanced development for the performer at all levels of training or
professional work.

VOICE ALIVE!

21-26 August

10.00-16.00

Participants of this unique workshop will explore paths to finding their
authentic voice and feed this exploration at all times into practical
work with text, both lyric and dramatic. Applying the motto, ‘out of
the head and into the body and the voice’ they will discover how
increased physical and vocal freedom enhances imaginative freedom. And
through a series of playful exercises on texts from William Shakespeare,
through language they will experience a deeper, more intensely visceral
connection to a character.

  IMPROVISATION INTO TEXT

   28 August - 02 September

10.00-16.00

In this intensive week-long programme, participants will work with the
principles of Improvisation and Active Analysis to invest personally in
the circumstances of Shakespearean Scenes, before bringing those
discoveries to the original texts. Our aim is to help the student arrive
at the deep poetry and the characters of these timeless plays through
imaginative immersion and experience that is uniquely their own.

These specialist intensive workshops will allow the participant to
immerse in vocal practice for the stage and in acting practice though
improvisation, while re-examining and expanding a broad palette of their
performing skills. Both weeks will be underpinned by engagement with and
exploration of Shakespeare’s text led by Andrew Visnevski.
