Title: No comment left behind: the use of computer-assisted coding in large datasets
Description: The Kidney Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM) is a national 39-item survey which is facilitated annually by the UK Kidney Association and Kidney Care UK. The main aim of the survey is to identify patient experience of kidney care by measuring 13 themes of kidney care such as access to the renal team, needling, transport, and environment. The final question in the PREM is a free-text question which in 2020 received 7370 comments. Using a technology-assisted coding program called QDA miner, all comments were coded and analyzed so that every comment was represented in the report. The coding process included text retrieval, cluster extraction and grid method. Presentation of these codes uses analysis by frequency, co-occurrences, and variables, presenting the data in tables, graphs, and figures. The final in-depth qualitative report was completed to a high standard and required minimal resources. This talk will discuss the process used to analyze such a wealth of comments and demonstrate the ways in which this analysis was presented, maximizing accessibility of the comments.
Bio: Lucy Mackintosh is a senior research assistant at the University of Hertfordshire. Lucy has a background in psychology, studying both her undergraduate and masters at Herts Uni. Predominantly, Lucy’s research focuses on patient experience of kidney care and analyzing the patient free text comments in response to Kidney Patient Reported Experience Measure. Currently, Lucy is working on a multi-phase study looking at the center characteristics, practice patterns and patient experience of kidney care during COVID-19.
The event will hold next Wednesday, March 29, 12h-13h EST (New York time). There will be a 30–45-minute presentation followed by a question and answer session. The event is free.
The event is FREE. You can register by going to the Webinar Section on the Provalis Research website.
