Role: Lecturer in Management and the Creative Industries (equiv. to Assistant Prof)
Institution: University of York
Contract type: Full time, permanent
Salary: £42,155 to £51,805 per year

Applications are invited for a full-time, open Lectureship in Management and the Creative Industries, available from September 2023. The successful candidate will join the innovative and rapidly expanding School of Arts and Creative Technologies (ACT) and work closely in collaboration with the School for Business and Society (SBS). The School of ACT brings together research, teaching and public engagement in the creative industries (including music, film, television, theatre, and interactive media); its facilities include a bespoke £30m building with superb industry-standard equipment, which opened in 2010. The SBS has just recently moved to a newly designed, state-of-the-art facility. The University of York is a research-intensive Russell Group university, and the post holder will be appointed on a research and teaching contract.

Role

The successful candidate will mainly contribute to our two postgraduate programmes in management, the MA in Management in the Creative and Cultural Industries and the new MA in Music, Management and Marketing. S/he will undertake PhD supervision as appropriate, and enhance the School’s reputation for highly innovative, impactful research. The ideal candidate will understand both the theory and professional practices of the creative industries – ideally with a global, or at least not solely western-centric, perspective – and they will be able to adapt their teaching to meet the needs of students from both the UK and overseas. Some administrative duties are also part of this role, including participation in relevant School committees as well as activities related to pastoral care, student recruitment and public outreach.

Skills, Experience and Qualification needed

- A PhD in an area relevant to management and the creative and cultural industries.
- Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications, or a willingness to complete York’s - Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
- Specialist knowledge in Management, Marketing, and/or Entrepreneurship, Business, and Strategy as they apply to creative and cultural industry businesses and environments.
- Demonstrable ability to develop research objectives, projects, and proposals, to publish/disseminate work in appropriate, high-profile ways, and to deliver presentations at conferences and other events.
- A commitment to citizenship, including the ability to perform administrative tasks in a timely fashion, and to contribute to the collegial and collaborative ethos of the School of ACT.
