Sexuality Summer School 2023: (Up) Against Nature, 21st – 26th May 2023

The Sexuality Summer School is a week-long event, comprising workshops and seminars for postgraduates* involved in the study of sexuality in any discipline. This postgraduate programme is limited to 40 places for which payment of a registration fee is required. 
Alongside these postgraduate SSS events, we run a series of feminist and queer public arts events open to all. For this year’s programme, see below or visit our blog: https://sexualitysummerschool.wordpress.com/

Film Screening and Discussion, Sediments (2021, Adrián Silvestre)

Tuesday 23 May: evening (time tbc)
Live Performance Event in Partnership with Contact: TransMission: SissyTV
Nando Messias (performance artist, choreographer and Lecturer in Contemporary Performance Practice at Central School for Speech and Drama, London)
Venue: Contact: Oxford Rd, Manchester M15 6JA

Wednesday 24 May: 5-7pm
Public Lecture: ‘The Castrato as Culture Ghost’, Professor Hal Gladfelder (Department of English, American Studies and Creative Writing, University of Manchester), with Dr Noelle Gallagher as respondent. Followed by a wine reception in the Atrium of SALC Graduate School 
Venue: SALC Graduate School Seminar Room C1.18, Ellen Wilkinson Building, The University of Manchester, M15 6JA

Thursday 25 May: (time tbc)
Two-person event with screenings, readings, and discussion in Partnership with Contact: Whiskey Chow (performance artist and Chinese drag king, Lecturer at the Royal College of Art, London): you must everywhere wander 你必顧盼 (2021) and Ro Robertson (artist based in Cornwall, working with performance, sculpture, assemblage and sound): birth build shift

Friday 26 May: 5-7pm
Closing Event Screening and Discussion with Sadie Lee, Libro Levi Bridgeman, Private View (2022, Sadie Lee, Libro Levi Bridgeman and Julie Dickson)
