The CREST group at UCL is organising a new event for the CREST Open
Workshops (COW):

The next one will be on Monday March 27th and Tuesday 28th 2023 in
London in London. This workshop, organised by Dr. Justyna Petke, Prof.
Federica Sarro, Prof. Bill Langdon, Dr. Giovani Guizzo, and James
Callan, will focus on "Genetic Improvement and Software
Specialisation”.
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/crest/events/2023/mar/63rd-crest-open-workshop-genetic-improvement-and-software-specialisation

Genetic Improvement uses automated search in order to improve existing
software. Aside from bug fixing, GI has been used to optimise software
properties such as runtime, memory and energy consumption, and
specialising to particular application domains. In light of GI usage
to improve software performance through software specialisation, we
also invite experts in similar areas, e.g., software performance,
compiler optimisation, parameter tuning, optimisation for particular
application domains. The goal of this workshop is to reflect on the
progress that the research community has made over the last years,
share experience in research and deployment, and identify key
challenges that need to be addressed in future research.

All talks at this workshop are by invitation only.
The workshop is part of the CREST Open Workshop (COW) programme
(http://crest.cs.ucl.ac.uk/cow).

CREST is the Centre for Research on Evolution Search and Testing,
founded in 2006. The CREST Open Workshop (COW) Programme started in
2009 and has attracted over 2096 attendees from 296 institutions,
spread over 44 countries. You can see the events we have run in the
past here:

http://crest.cs.ucl.ac.uk/cow/past_events/

The workshops did not happen during pandemic as we aim to keep this an
in-person event. With COW63 we are restarting this successful workshop
series.

As you will see, we try to provide a useful archive of talks, not just
slides, but videos too and more recently, live blogging and the use of
social networking media, to allow the widest community to be involved,
both during and after the event. We typically have between 35 and 50
attendees. For some previous events this has sadly meant that we have
had to turn away registrations, but it is important that we have a
workshop feel to the event and, of course, that we have a very nice
room too.

Talks will be a *maximum* of 20 minutes long with plenty of time for
questions and discussion. We also hope that the workshop will foster
and promote collaboration, and there will be time set aside to support
this.

Participants are expected to attend the whole event in person since
the workshop is interactive and discursive. There is no registration
fee, due to kind support of UKRI EPSRC's fellowship grant on
"Automated Software Specialisation Using Genetic Improvement"
Light lunches, will be included, along with the usual refreshments all
at no charge.

The registration of interest is currently open, and there is
information about the speakers and talks on our website:

Speakers will include ....

Aymeric Blot Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale (ULCO), France
  Sandy Brownlee Stirling University
  James Callan UCL
Myra Cohen Iowa State University, USA

63rd COW registration of interest to attend is now open via
https://forms.gle/W9e233RkmYx8g9KN7

** Policy on Student Registrations

We welcome registrations from PhD students, where the student is
pursuing a programme of research for which the COW will provide
intellectual benefit and/or from whom the workshop and its other
attendees will gain benefit. We do not normally expect to register
students other than those on PhD level programmes of study. For
example, those students taking a course at the equivalent of UK
masters or bachelors level would not, ordinarily, be considered
eligible to register for COW. However, we are willing to consider
exceptional cases, where a masters or bachelors student has a clear
contribution to make to the topic of the COW. In all cases, students
must have the approval of their supervisor/advisor for their
attendance at the COW and their consent to the terms of registration.
This is why we ask that students seeking to register for a COW also
supply the contact details of their supervisor.

Through the kind support of the EPSRC in the form of a fellowship
grant, we have funding to support the workshops, so registration is
free. However, please appreciate that numbers are limited and catering
needs to be booked in advance, so registration followed by
non-attendance will cause difficulties. For this reason, though the
workshop is entirely free of charge, there will be a cancellation fee
of £100 for those who register but subsequently fail to attend.

Remember to specify:

With very best wishes,
Justyna, Federica, Bill, Giovani, and James
