We're excited to announce that five brand new video collections, offering high quality filmed performances from leading European opera houses, are now live on Bloomsbury Video Library. Comprising of 88 videos in total, the five new collections contain productions of eighty operas by over forty composers, from prestigious opera houses such as Glyndebourne, Teatro Real, Venezia Teatro La Fenice, The Royal Opera House, and many more.
About the collections:
- Glyndebourne Festival Opera collection: Includes 29 performances from the world-leading Glyndebourne opera house, filmed at the Glyndebourne Festival from 2005-2019. View the collection here: https://www.bloomsburyvideolibrary.com/glyndebourne-festival-opera
Highlights include David McVicar’s productions of Giulio Cesare (2005) and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2011); the 2010 revival of Hockney and Cox’s production of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress; and the world premiere of Brett Dean’s multi-award-winning Hamlet in 2017.
- Early and Baroque Opera (pre-1750) collection: Features nine productions of early works from European opera houses including the Dutch National Opera, Teatro La Fenice and Teatro Real. View the collection here: https://www.bloomsburyvideolibrary.com/early-and-baroque-collection
Performances include Graham Vick’s production of Handel’s Tamerlano (Teatro Real, 2008), William Christie conducting Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea (Teatro Real, 2010) and Pierre Audi’s final production as Director of the Dutch National Opera, Landi’s Morte d’Orfeo (2018).

This collection showcases the work of directors including Laurent Pelly (Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Teatro Regio Torino, 2017), Robert Carsen (Mozart’s Idomeneo, Teatro Real, 2019) and David McVicar (Mozart's Don Giovanni, The Royal Opera House, 2019, and Die Zauberflöte, The Royal Opera House, 2017).

Productions include Chabrier's L'Étoile directed by Laurent Pelly (Dutch National Opera, 2014), Puccini's La Bohème conducted by Antonio Pappano (The Royal Opera House, 2017), as well as two documentaries by Kick Films, Global Wagner: From Bayreuth to the World (2020), and Crazy for Opera, which reveals life behind the scenes at the Bavarian State Opera (2017).

Highlights include Antonio Pappano conducting Puccini's Madama Butterfly (The Royal Opera House, 2017) and Venezia Teatro La Fenice's 2007 production of Mosca's Signor Goldoni.
