There are two speakers, and as usual there will be time for wider discussion following the two 30 minute presentations.
Asha Ward
Creating Accessible Interactive Systems for Active Music-making
In this talk, Dr Asha Ward discusses her research using participatory design methods to create bespoke technology-based solutions with and for diverse users. Asha uses the lived experience and real-world requirements of her participants to inform her designs, with the ultimate aim of breaking down barriers to access in active music-making and providing new tools to do so. This talk will provide a contextual background that spans some of the work that Asha has been involved with - centring around creating bespoke interactive systems that feature hardware and software, why these systems are needed, and covering the co-creative development process.
Oliver Hödl
Information technology developed and evaluated for music-related settings and beyond
Oliver Hödl is a senior postdoctoral researcher at the University of Vienna and the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. He will be presenting his research in music and HCI that includes Technology-mediated audience participation (TMAP) from opera to interactive sound performances, Digital Musical Instruments for STEAM education (STEM + Arts) or New Interfaces for Musical Expression from the award-winning Trombosonic to the newly developed Lego brick-built piano The Playel. In addition, he illustrates how technology originally developed for musical purposes contributed to other domains in unexpected ways.
