Location: London and Edinburgh (Hybrid Working)
Various roles: Opportunities available at Graduate, Senior and Research Director level
Application deadline: 22nd February 2023
The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) is looking for statisticians who are keen to support our mission to make life better through social research. We have a range of positions available.
We would like to hear from graduates with an interest in social survey research, and from candidates with experience of working in statistical roles in social or market research, government, public/voluntary sector, or academia. Senior positions require knowledge of survey methods and, ideally, some practical experience of survey sampling and weighting.
What will you be doing;
You will be working alongside some of the most talented and dedicated statisticians in the industry on ground-breaking social research projects that are making a positive difference to real lives across the UK.
As a statistician, you will play an important role in surveys undertaken by NatCen, producing cost-effective sampling designs and survey weights. Once embedded in the team you will advise researchers and customers on survey methods and will play a role in winning new work by contributing to research proposals.
You will get the opportunity to carry out secondary analysis, helping to answer important research questions with relevance to policy making and society. In addition, there will be opportunities to get involved in statistical training of researchers from NatCen and other organisations.
You will work closely with NatCen’s Principal Statistician and other members of the Statistics team to develop and promote the statistics function at NatCen.
NatCen is Britain’s leading independent social research institute. Our research influences policy makers, practitioners, academics and the media, shaping our understanding of the country and how it is changing. We conduct some of the most widely cited and influential surveys in the UK, including the British Social Attitudes Survey, the Health Survey for England, the National Travel Survey and the Family Resources Survey. We also run the award-winning NatCen panel, Britain’s first probability-based online and telephone panel.
