THE 2023 COGAIN SYMPOSIUM
****************************************
The COGAIN symposium is a yearly event that focuses on all aspects of gaze interaction related to eye-controlled assistive technology. COGAIN is an inclusive symposium which provides an excellent opportunity for researchers to network, discuss, and reflect on state-of-the-art research contributions in the eye-tracking community.
The 2023 Communication by Gaze Interaction (COGAIN) symposium will be co-located with ETRA 2023 (https://etra.acm.org/2023/), and take place at the University of Tübingen (hybrid) as a half-day event between May 30th and June 2nd (TBC), from 9.30am to noon (UTC +1).
*** Special Theme: Accessibility ***
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the COGAIN Association. This year’s special theme is rooted in the original foundations of the COGAIN Association: eye-tracking in support of differently-abled users, and more accessible and inclusive computer systems. As a result, we particularly welcome papers on:
• Eye-tracking developments for accessibility
• Use cases of systems made more inclusive via eye-tracking technologies
• Reflections over the last 15 years of COGAIN and the state-of-the-art on accessible, gaze-based systems
• Future applications of eye-tracking for accessibility (e.g. in VR/AR/MR, BCI, the real world)
*** General Topics of Interest ***
In addition to this year’s special theme, we invite contributions on a range of eye-tracking topics including, but not limited to, the following subjects:
• General gaze-controlled graphical user interfaces and multimodal input
• Gaze-enhanced games
• Gaze-controlled robots and vehicles
• Gaze interaction with mobile, wearable, and smart devices
• Gaze interaction in 3D (VR/AR/MR & the real world)
• User context estimation from eye movements
• Interaction study of eye movements & pupillary responses
*** Submission and Presentation ***
We are looking for contributions that lead to interesting discussions – these can range from works in progress, demos, to traditional paper contributions. Submissions should have a size that fits its contribution, up to eight pages long (single-column format, not counting references), be anonymized, and be submitted via PCS (Society: ETRA, Conference: ETRA 2023, Track: ETRA 2023 COGAIN). After a double-blind review process, selected authors are invited to present and discuss their work either in person or remotely.
Accepted papers will be included in the Proceedings of ETRA 2023.
*** Timeline (AoE) ***
February 24: Paper submission deadline
March 24: Notification of acceptance
April 3: Camera-ready submission deadline
*** Organization ***
Augusto Esteves (University of Lisbon)
Minoru Nakayama (Tokyo Institute of Technology)
Joshua Newn (Lancaster University)
Christopher Clarke (University of Bath)
