WESTERN AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS
MOUNT LAWLEY CAMPUS 
$128,880 to $148,089 PA (ALEVC) + $19,803 Academic Leadership Allowance and 17% Superannuation. 
3 YEAR, FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

Overview
WAAPA is an internationally renowned performing arts training institution within Edith Cowan University. Alumni from all of our courses are found in a multitude of roles within the international arts and cultural industries, from performers to composers, songwriters, producers and artistic curators. The School provides the most comprehensive range of performing arts training in Australia with Dance, Theatre and Music, as well as all of the technical and design disciplines. Our world-class staff provide rigorous and specialised training of the highest order, supporting our students to realise their professional aspirations. 

As part of an exciting expansion plan, WAAPA will move into its brand-new city campus in Yagan Square in the Perth CBD in 2025. This Creative Industries, Law, Business and Technology Campus will be where innovative thinkers, adaptive learners and global citizens meet to develop into the leaders of tomorrow. ECU’s CBD campus will bring together streams of teaching and research with unique synergies for growth and development. This is unequivocally the most exciting time to join the University as it embarks on this further growth and transformational journey.

The Role
This inaugural Director International appointment at WAAPA will be a welcomed as a member of the School’s executive leadership group and charged with establishing a consolidated international strategy for the School that builds upon our existing academic partnerships and increases our presence internationally in both new and existing markets. 

Reporting to the Executive Dean, the incumbent will be required to quickly foster strong and collaborative relationships both internally and externally, utilising these relationships to apply creative and innovative strategies to our international programmes based on the demand, relevance to WAAPA strategic objectives, measured risk exposure and envisaged long-term success.

Individuals will also be expected to possess strong business acumen with the ability to develop and manage contracts with international partners whilst demonstrating the University’s values and representing it and WAAPA’s interests at all times.

Accountabilities
The Director will manage WAAPA’s international partnerships, and develop and support relationships that:
Enhance The School’s global reach and impact;
Enhance the University's global reputation;
Grow international student participation and income;
Deliver high quality transnational education programs;
Attract students to WAAPA through international partnerships and pathways;
Secure access to new research partnerships; and
Enable student and staff mobility to collaborate with international partners with measurable outcomes. 
Selection Criteria
The role of Director International requires the following attributes:
A post graduate qualification (preferably PhD), with significant industry and/or academic experience aligned to at least one of the academic disciplines within WAAPA, including:
Performance;
Music; 
Production and Design
Comprehensive leadership capabilities, including experience in working collaboratively with diverse teams operating in different countries; 
Sound knowledge of the Australian higher education sector policies, trends, innovations and strategies;
Sound knowledge of, and proven experience with international education and associated student experience;
Capacity to contribute to and operationalise institutional and school academic governance requirements; 
Demonstrated capacity to build strategic networks and collaborative relationships in off-shore environments;
Sound business acumen with the ability to develop and manage contracts with international partners.
Proven experience in one or more overseas markets within which ECU is active
The ability to embrace and contribute to cultural diversity within the School; and
Ability to speak and/or have a good understanding of a second or other international languages (highly desirable)

In addition to the responsibilities detailed in this role statement, academic staff are expected to achieve and maintain the outcomes expected in the ECU Academic Staff Performance Expectations and Outcomes (ASPEO) Framework.

Benefits & Remuneration
This full-time, fixed-term position attract a remuneration of $128,880 to $148,089 PA (ALEVC) plus 17% University superannuation contribution and an additional $19,803 loading associated with the academic leadership role. 

The successful applicants will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.
