Artificial Intelligence (AI) claims to be a generalisable solution to a wide range of tricky problems.
This talk will argue that, instead of helping to address our current crises, AI causes divisions that limit people’s life chances and suggests fascistic solutions to social problems. The talk will highlight the resonances between a material analysis of AI’s operations and the surrounding political and social conditions. While critical, it will also propose an ultimately optimistic perspective that apparatuses of algorithmic optimisation can be restructured and replaced by systems that support mutual aid and solidarity.
