Dear all,
We are happy to announce the publication of the seventh episode of Artery, a podcast on art, authorship and anthropology. In this episode, Iza Kavedžija, an anthropologist at the University of Cambridge, speaks with Emiko Agatsuma, a dancer and choreographer specializing in Butoh. As a dance genre, Butoh emerged in Japan in the1960s as a reaction to Western modern dance. Emiko is a recipient of the prestigious Best Young Artist 2015 Award by the Japan Dance Critics Association and she represented Japan in 2020 at the 39th annual Battery Dance Festival in New York City, USA.

How do artists understand their role in the making of an artwork, and its life thereafter? In each episode, one anthropologist has a conversation with an artist of their choosing, exploring issues of authorship and responsibility in art, and the relationships involved in creative production.
A new episode will be released every two weeks, on Fridays. We would be delighted if you would join us!
Podcast episodes can be found through the links provided and on any of your favourite podcast purveyors.
With warm regards,
Iza Kavedžija (University of Cambridge) and Robert Simpkins (SOAS, London)
