CFP: ‘Contemporary Folk Horror in Film and Media’

Hi everyone,
There is an upcoming publishing opportunity for a collected essays book that extends from the 2022 conference of the same name hosted by Melody Blackmore, PhD Researcher Leeds School of Arts.
The book will focus upon contemporary texts (film, tv, media, games, etc) between the years 2000-2022 to put the spotlight onto the recent revival of modern folk horror and what this means in today’s culture. Establishing a central look at contemporary folk horror, the book aims to discuss contemporary topics, such as gender, spectatorship, socio-cultural issues, political crises, race, class, sexuality, and so on. Below are examples of contemporary folk horror texts, but this is not limited to the list, and you can feel free to submit anything you wish to do so. Additionally, new analysis of folk horror found within other genres will be welcomed: For instance reading a gothic text as folk horror, or perhaps a sci-fi or horror tv series as folk horror, etc.
In particular, we are looking at contemporary film and media in terms of (but not limited to)Gender (including Masculinity); Landscape; Cultural Representations; National and Individual Identity; Communities.
Please ensure your abstracts include a topical focus on a film, game,or other media from 2000-2022 and includes your theoretical framework used and main theoretical arguments (Psychoanalysis, Phenomenological, Cultural, Film, etc)
Abstracts should be no more than 300 words and an additional bio should be included or attached to editor [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, or [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Deadline for abstracts is December 31st 2022.
