Senior Research Associate: "Equity for the Older: Beyond Digital Access"

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Associate on the EPSRC-funded project "Equity for the Older: Beyond Digital Access" (E4O) to co-lead the development of a roadmap for digital equity. The position offers a unique opportunity for leadership and research impact for someone with expertise in social policy, design for policy, and/or strategic design.
The purpose of this project is to help create a digital society that delivers equal benefits to older adults, which it will do through 1) analysing multiplicative factors in older adults’ exclusion from digital society, 2) conducting interviews and focus groups with older adults to explore how the rapid digitalisation during the pandemic has altered their relationship with digital technologies, 3) co-designing new technology prototypes with older adults, and 4) creating lasting resources to instill best practice for a digital economy that is inclusive of the full diversity of older adults. This project is a collaboration with University College London, who are leading the quantitative and co-design portions of the work (objectives 1 and 3, respectively); the Senior Research Associate role at Lancaster corresponds directly to objective 4, which will draw on and inform other parts of the project.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of the project, we value ability and enthusiasm to work across disciplines, as well as strong interpretive and communication skills. Familiarity with research and/or policy relating to older adults is not required; nor is a background in Computing. However, an understanding of how to effectively harness research findings to shape policy is essential. The top priority for this role is to produce and evidence policy impact. There will be ample opportunity for leading on research publications and contributing to collaborative work led by other team members.
