Description
SPT Labtech has an exciting opportunity for an experienced CryoEM Applications Development Scientist. You will help develop, demonstrate and deliver new sample preparation instrumentation and blotless support grid technologies that will enable emerging methods for the routine determination of biomolecular structures. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with cutting-edge instrument automation and novel sample support technology joined with the latest platforms and strategies for microscope data collection and image processing software.

To improve efficiency and outcomes, the cryoEM workflow requires the integration of sample preparation, microscope data collection and image processing strategies towards routine sample optimization. You will help shape the field through the development and delivery of methods based on chameleon and new nanowire sample support types as a key member of our structural biology team. We are looking for a personable scientist who has specialized in cryoEM and values widespread collaboration with both industry and customer-based teams to evaluate novel instrument automation and grid support designs/geometries that integrate with various microscope platforms, data collection strategies and image processing workflows.

You will be home-based (ideally in Western Europe or UK) and have flexibility in your scheduled appointments with customers and colleagues, allowing you to balance your work and personal responsibilities. This role requires excellent relationship-building skills with both our UK and European customer base and development teams on instrumentation, software, and sample support technology. As such, you will be required to travel across UK/Europe so this position must be based near a convenient travel hub. Being that we are a global company, you will be working with colleagues from across multiple time zones and territories, requiring some flexibility in meeting schedules.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Leadership of diverse cross functional research teams.
Supporting the sales team with the demonstration and roll-out of our chameleon cryoEM sample preparation platform
Managing placements with new and existing partners, including training, analysis, reporting and interpretation of results.
Liaising between commercial, customer, and development teams to identify and enable product improvements across sample preparation for cryoEM
Engaging in remote and on-site training
Supporting the development, testing and deployment of nanowire sample support variants.
Preparing and presenting material for scientific publications and meetings as well as marketing purposes, such as posters and application notes
Skills & Attributes

The essentials:

PhD in structural biology or related field, with a focus on cryoEM
3+ years of hands-on experience with sample vitrification methods, operation of high-end cryoEM microscopes for data collection and image processing software
Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to 75%), including internationally
Amiable and confident personality
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A desire to embrace and develop a customer facing scientifically orientated commercial role
