Dear Sarah,
I'm not surprised that there is not the "one size fits all" answer to your question. If your measurement protocol can make use of 64 channels, it may result in better temporal or spatial resolution, less noise or other improvements. You should check with your MR technicians which coil they recommend for your protocol. Other points that might influence your choice are more related to coil geometry. Some 64 channel coils are smaller than 20 channel coils and may not fit all head sizes well. Also, if you need visual stimulation you should check which coil suits your needs best.
Hope this helps
Volkmar
