Hi all,
The EXCITE network (https://excite-network.eu/) is organising a workshop on “Advanced X-ray and Electron Imaging (in Geosciences)” in Vienna, Austria, between September 4-8 2022. The workshop is aimed at early career researchers with a basic knowledge of these imaging techniques who want to learn more and seize the opportunity to discuss their research plans with experts in the field.
We managed to put together an exciting group of speakers and topics, each with a 90 mins time slot:
September 5
- Paul Midgley (Cambridge University): Multi-Dimensional Electron Microscopy
- Michel Bestmann (FAU Erlangen): Correlative Microscopy: the NEW hype?
- Dave Wallis (Cambridge University): High-angular resolution electron backscatter diffraction analysis of lattice distortion in geological materials
- Rich Taylor (ZEISS Research Microscopy Solutions): Quantitative geochemical mapping for petrology research
- Andrew Menzies (Bruker Nano Analytics): Micro-XRF Imaging in Geological Sciences – Capabilities, Applications and Examples
September 6
- Ian Butler & Florian Fusseis (University of Edinburgh): Experimental Environments for 4D X-ray Microtomography
- Christian Schlepütz (Swiss Light Source): Synchrotron X-ray tomographic microscopy: From high-resolution 3D structural information to observing material changes in situ
- Anton du Plessis (Object Research Systems): Advanced Segmentation and Image Analysis with Dragonfly
- Arne Jacob (Math2Market): Digital Core Analysis with GeoDict
- Edward Andò (EPF Lausanne): Measuring deformations in time-resolved image data using SPAM (Software for the Practical Analysis of Materials)
On September 7 and 8, participants will have the opportunity to present their own research and methodological approaches and discuss them with the speakers and other participants.
The workshop will be hosted at the University of Vienna and the first two days will be live-streamed online. On-site participation in Vienna is limited to 35 early career researchers with a basic knowledge of electron and/or X-ray imaging, online-participation is unrestricted.
Thanks to the support by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme (EXCITE network, grant agreement number 101005611) and the UK’s NERC (grant number NE/T001615/1), participation is free. We further have ten travel grants (max €400) to support participation (application info on the registration website).
Please register via this Google form (copy & paste shortURL into browser): shorturl.at/EHIR1. The registration deadline for those who would like to join us in Vienna is 15 July 2022. For those who like to participate online, please register until 19 August 2022.
We look forward to seeing you in Vienna!
Florian Fusseis, Ian Butler and Oliver Plümper
