Hello all (with apologies for cross-posting).
Students and tutors might be interested in accommodation offers available at Gladstone’s Library in Hawarden, Flintshire.
Gladstone’s Library is a residential reference library with collections that follow the key themes of Classical and Contemporary Literary Culture, Theology, History and Current Affairs. It has three silent Reading Rooms, 26 bedrooms, an on-site restaurant, a chapel and a comfortable guest lounge. Previous residents (and event speakers) include journalists and media academics.
We know that summer is a key time for research and writing-up, and also for vital re-charging or time to revisit ongoing personal projects. We also know that students in particular are impacted by the current cost of living squeeze.
The Library is therefore offering a number of options this summer.
From today, if you book two nights on select dates through July and August, guests can enjoy a nightly two-course dinner at no extra cost. If you book now to the end of August, two nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast for two people sharing a double ensuite is £300. The single rate is £240 for two nights.
We are also pleased to announce that there is a double room offer running on all dates through July and August. Our double and twin rooms with a private (not ensuite) bathroom are £100 B&B every night in July and August. This is a saving of £35 per night, or up to £75 if you are eligible for a student discount.
If you are a student, clergyperson, or a member of the Society of Authors, you can claim 40% back on your accommodation via Reception. Both the above offer and these discounts can be used simultaneously. This means a student could secure a room and breakfast for £60 per night.
Important note: rooms booked under these offers are subject to availability. Full payment is required at time of booking. Please book through Reception on 01244 532 350. Bookings must be made through Reception.
Finally, our scholarships, which were suspended during Covid closures, are now back online. There are 16 specific scholarships available which offer full board at the Library for one to two weeks, depending on their terms. These include The General Scholarship Fund for work on historical slavery and the Dr Daisy Ronco Scholarship is awarded for research into Nineteenth Century Studies with an emphasis on the role of women. The full list and application terms are available on this webpage:

Thank you, and please feel free to circulate within your networks.
