Dear Colleagues,

I would like to announce the publication of a new book which may be of interest to HiSoN members: "Language Dynamics in the Early Modern Period", edited by Karen Bennet and Angelo Cattaneo and published by Routledge. The book has chapters on the functional expansion of vernaculars at the expense of Latin as well as the continued use of Latin, multilingualism, language contact, language conflict, lingua francas and language ideology in the early modern period. The languages discussed volume include English, Croatian, French, Dutch, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Welsh, Breton, New Latin, Lingua franca, Lingua Geral de Mina and Chinese Pidgin English. The book is the first volume of a new Routledge series edited by Karen Bennett on "Multilingualism, Lingua Francas and Translation in the Early Modern Period".
