Hello,

I would like to let members of the Childhood and Youth group know about a thematic panel that should be of interest to people focusedon young people and issues of disability and social inclusion. Three of us will present on extending the capabilities of young disabled people in the current policy context common to high income countries.

First Toon Benoot (University Ghent) will consider how to analyse systems of personalised care and support for people with disabilities, pointing to the importance of further theorising the position of people with disabilities in contemporary societies, the opportunities they have to develop their potential and how this can be understood as a matter of social justice.
Simone Visentin (University Padova) will be considering how far people with disabilities have the opportunities and the capacity to be active in decision-making processes concerning the personalisation of services for them.
I will be talking about people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a UK context, considering novel ways to take part in work in the public sphere, and how these might provide opportunities for learning by young people and those they work with. I  consider links between participation, learning and social inclusion.

Dear Children and Youth Thematic Group members,

Hope all is well with you.

As coordinators of the thematic group, we wanted to approach its members to get a gist of what can we expect in terms of panels, presentations, and attendance during the HDCA conference in Antwerp in September.

If your submission for the HDCA 2022 conference has been accepted, we would be very grateful if you could let us know. Also, giving us the title of your presentation, and whether you plan to present online or in person. This will allow us to share this collected info with the rest of the group in order to encourage attendance.

We plan to have an informal meeting for all members present in Antwerp during the conference, so if you plan to go to Antwerp, please let us know, so that we have an idea of how many people will be present.

After the conference, we will have our official annual meeting (October 2022, TBA) online, so that everyone, including those who are not attending the conference can join and provide their input.
