Linkoping University advertises a position as Postdoc in medical image processing and deep learning

The position is connected to the Center for Medical Imaging and Visualization (CMIV, www.liu.se/cmiv). CMIV is an interdisciplinary research center within Linköping University that conducts focused front-line research in interdisciplinary projects that provide solutions to tomorrow's clinical questions. The interdisciplinary cardiovascular imaging research group within CMIV, conducts technical development and application of advanced magnetic resonance and computed tomography in the cardiovascular field. The group has access to 3 research magnetic cameras and 2 computer tomographs, one of which is a unique photon-counting computer tomograph.

This position is part of a joint collaboration between the two largest research programs in Sweden, the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), with the ultimate goal of solving ground-breaking research questions across disciplines. Within the WASP-DDLS financed project “Huge Complex Diagnostic Imaging Data”, two postdoc will work jointly on a pipeline for the generation of personalized models from huge complex imaging data.

The use of CT imaging of the heart is quickly increasing in cardiac diagnostics. Especially using the latest equipment, extremely high-resolution 4D data of the heart can be obtained in a few seconds. Currently, clinical analysis of this data mainly focusses on anatomical assessment. More advanced data analysis, assessing cardiac function, is hampered by the large size of the data.
The postdoc in this announcement will focus on development of methods that support an efficient image processing of the cardiac CT data for advanced assessment of the functioning of the beating heart. The emphasis will be the use of high-resolution time-resolved spectral data of the heart that will be acquired using a novel photon-counting detector Computer Tomography (PCCT). Based on this data, time-varying data representing the hearts anatomy, its dynamics, the blood flow, and myocardial strain will be obtained.
Responsibilities include development of methods for segmentation and analysis of PCCT data. Publication of the work in scientific journals is also included in the assignment.

The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
You have good knowledge in programming and image processing. Experience in imaging processing av medical images, and especially 3D or 4D cardiovascular medical images is an advantage. Knowledge in deep learning of medical images is an advantage.
You have good English language skills both in terms of speech and writing, as we are multilingual within the research group. You have good communication skills and easy to collaborate with others.

This position is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The position as a postdoc is full-time.
