Free workshop - Assessment strategies for mathematical sciences in the digital era
Thursday 23rd June 2022, 9am – 4pm, University of Glasgow
NOTE - IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY 3rd JUNE
Are you currently using technology for assessment in the mathematical sciences or wish to learn more about methods to incorporate into your own teaching?
This free event, hosted by the Statistics and Data Analytics Education group at the University of Glasgow and organised as part of the IMA & RSS Mathematical Sciences Teaching and Learning Workshop Series aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from the mathematical sciences to discuss key issues about digital assessments and show/promote conditions in which deeper approaches to learning will flourish.
The workshop will consist of a series of keynote talks and demonstrations on the use of digital assessment approaches in the mathematical sciences. This will include topics such as:
Creating online assessment integrating mathematics with STACK
Creating statistics e-assessments using Dewis with embedded R code
Formative and summative assessment of peer review tasks using AROPA
Experiences with coding assessments using auto-grading and peer assessment
Insights into running an online distance learning masters
There will also be two sessions consisting of lightning talks and related round table discussions offered by attendees at the workshop who would like to share their experiences or ideas related to digital assessment approaches.
Attendees are invited to propose a short talk in the following areas:
The role of peer review assessment in mathematical sciences
Creating assessments for programming courses online
Constructing, reviewing and marking e-assessments
Open session - propose a topic of your choice!
This workshop will operate as both an in-person and online event. Online attendees will only have access to the keynote talks. Attendance is free but numbers are limited. We will be closing in-person attendance for the event on Friday 3rd June
You can register for the event here - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/assessment-strategies-for-mathematical-sciences-in-the-digital-era-tickets-308686087397
After registration, we will send you a form to propose a short talk for the lightning sessions which we would strongly encourage. This can be on any topic relating to strategies in assessment for the mathematical sciences. These talks can be as general as you wish and we mainly wish to encourage active discussion between delegates.
A final agenda for the day will be circulated to attendees nearer the time.
